According to Daily News on September 9th, the strategic vision of the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) to develop Dar es Salaam Port into a major freight hub in East and Central Africa is gradually showing results. The recent infrastructure upgrade has enabled the port to accommodate large vessels up to 300 meters in length, placing it in the ranks of modern global ports. This achievement is directly attributed to the comprehensive infrastructure upgrade of the Dar es Salaam Maritime Gateway Project (DMGP). This project is a multi-year initiative launched in 2017, driven by the continued support and high priority of the government led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan. The port recently successfully handled the MV MYNY, a 300 meter long post Panamax ship carrying 6840 containers. When discussing this milestone, Captain Abdullah Mwengamno, the Director of Maritime and Port Operations at TPA, stated that the port's ability to handle such large vessels demonstrates its improved operational capabilities and preparedness.
