The government announced plans to build a 300 meter long berth at Tanga Port to enhance the port's throughput capacity and cope with the significant increase in revenue and cargo handling volume. On Monday, July 13, 2026, Finance Minister Camille Musa Omar announced during his inspection of the development progress of Tanga Port that the project will be implemented in collaboration between the government and the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) as part of the government's sixth phase strategy aimed at driving economic growth through transportation and energy sectors. He pointed out that the government will continue to promote port expansion work to meet the growing demand for cargo handling and build the port into an important trade and economic hub. In addition to port expansion, Mr. Omar stated that the government is also committed to improving other transportation infrastructure, including railway services and Tanga Airport, in this fiscal year to enhance the efficiency of transporting goods and passengers. He also pointed out that the strategic Tanga Pangani highway project, with a total length of 50 kilometers, will alleviate freight pressure and bring more economic opportunities to the region.
