The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project has achieved significant construction progress in the first quarter of 2026. The developer of this 1,443-kilometer-long, 24-inch-diameter heated buried crude oil pipeline revealed that key milestones have been reached within Uganda and Tanzania, including pipeline delivery, with ongoing efforts to meet the initial oil delivery target. The pipeline will transport oil produced from Uganda's Albertine Rift Basin to the port of Tanga in Tanzania, subsequently distributing it to global markets. As Ugandans anticipate the country's "first barrel of oil" this year, the pipeline is expected to facilitate crude oil exports before the completion of the refinery. In the quarterly progress update, Guillaume Dulout, General Manager of EACOP, stated that from January to March, the project achieved "focused execution" and "measurable progress" across multiple areas, demonstrating the steady advancement of this multi-billion-dollar regional infrastructure project.
