According to Monitor on September 4th, President Museveni made his first commitment as early as 2011. Now, the highly anticipated reconstruction project of the Lusalila Kasambia Nkon Sambuble highway has finally begun, bringing new hope to farmers and transporters who have long suffered from poor road conditions. The Minister of Engineering and Transport, Edward Katomba Wamara, has officially launched the 97 kilometer road reconstruction project connecting the Mubende and Sambabule regions. It is expected that this project will improve the transportation of milk and other agricultural products, stabilize the purchase prices of agricultural products, not only promote trade between Mubende and Sambabule, but also drive economic development in some sub regions of Buganda and Benjolo. The minister also mentioned that this road will be upgraded from gravel pavement to asphalt pavement, and detailed design will be carried out, covering drainage system, lighting facilities, road signs, and community and environmental protection measures. To fund the project, the government obtained a loan of 126.44 million euros (521.6 billion shillings) from Citibank. Among them, Citibank will provide approximately 479.8 billion shillings in funding, while the government will invest 555.1 billion shillings in equity and taxes.
