According to Star on July 29th, Kenya is seeking to expand its agricultural exports to North Africa, with Algeria identified as a key potential market for milk powder, tea, and coffee. Previously, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mutasi Kagewe, and the Algerian Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Professor Kamal Rezig, held a bilateral meeting during the United Nations Food System Summit+4 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. During the meeting, Kenya showed a strong interest in exporting excess milk powder and globally competitive tea and coffee. This measure is part of its overall strategy to diversify export destinations and reduce post harvest losses. The two countries have reached a consensus to sign a memorandum of understanding to promote structural trade cooperation. Algeria has committed to hosting a trade fair to provide a platform for Kenyan companies to showcase their products, thereby promoting bilateral trade and improving the existing trade imbalance.
