According to Monitor on June 4th, Dar es Salaam Port in Tanzania is in deep negotiations with two global metal logistics giants to establish a large warehousing center. Dar es Salaam Port seeks to promote regional transportation and compete with Mombasa Port in Kenya. According to the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), negotiations are underway with Henley Bass Limited to develop a precious metal logistics center. Dar es Salaam's current freight volume is second only to Mombasa. According to port operators, in December of last year alone, Mombasa Port handled 41.1 million tons of cargo, more than twice the 18 million tons of cargo at Dar es Salaam Port. In order to regain lost territory, the port has introduced fixed berthing windows and specialized metal storage facilities, aimed at simplifying operations and attracting high-value goods.
