According to Monitor on May 7th, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo have signed an agreement aimed at jointly resolving border issues and enhancing cooperation in the areas bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo. This agreement aimed at promoting cross-border peace was signed in the Mahagi region of East Turki province, with the aim of reducing cross-border criminal activities and curbing the entry of illegal goods into both countries. Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo have pledged to cooperate in the region to combat border insecurity that threatens peace and security between the two countries. This cross-border peace agreement on security was signed by General Taban Amin, Deputy Director General of Special Operations at the Organization for Internal Security (ISO), and Catherine Akumu Mavejjina, Member of Parliament for the Elderly in Northern Uganda. Col Disanoa Laula, the military affairs director of Mahagi region in the Eastern Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, called on both sides to respect the peace agreement in order to promote diplomatic relations, trade, and commercial exchanges between Uganda and Congo, and as a permanent symbol of brotherhood.
