The Secretary-General of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Associations (ECCSA) stated to the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) will bring significant opportunities not only to Ethiopia and its business community but also to other African countries. With a population of over 1.57 billion, predominantly young, and a combined GDP exceeding $3.4 trillion, Africa presents a vast and highly attractive commercial market. Kenna Lemi, Secretary-General of ECCSA, pointed out that the AfCFTA serves as a crucial gateway for local traders to access the continent's expansive market. He argued that Ethiopia's participation in this regional bloc will create substantial opportunities for its business sector. The AfCFTA offers numerous benefits to Ethiopian traders, enabling them to sell products across Africa rather than being confined to the domestic market. He noted that, as trade operates under free-market principles, the supply of goods and services will no longer be constrained by tariffs or trade barriers. Additionally, the Secretary-General added that free competition within the region will drive traders to continuously enhance their capabilities and adopt new practices, fostering a more dynamic and efficient business environment.
