The Tanzanian government reiterated its commitment to strengthening the cassava value chain, with specific measures including scaling up production, ensuring market stability and reliability, and attracting private sector investment in processing. Agriculture Deputy Minister David Silind said at the National Assembly that the government is collaborating with private sector stakeholders to advance a national cassava development strategy aimed at boosting production, securing market stability, and enhancing product value through modern processing. He highlighted that the Kigoma region's Kachonkwa and Kidongwe District Councils are key cassava-producing areas receiving national support, and the government will further increase assistance to these regions. Silind's remarks followed a question from CCM member MP Allan Mwano of the Kachonkwa constituency, who had inquired about specific government plans to ensure market stability for cassava growers in his electoral area. Silind revealed that funds have been allocated in the 2025/2026 fiscal year for market infrastructure, drying facilities, processing units, and storage facilities in Kachonkwa District.
