Tanzanian Prime Minister Mweguru Encemba announced that the government plans to purchase 10000 tractors nationwide and establish 1000 comprehensive agricultural machinery service centers in each township level administrative region. This measure aims to enhance agricultural productivity, reduce farmers' production costs, and give them more time to engage in other economic activities. Dr. Encemba delivered the above speech when presiding over the first African Regional Conference on Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization in Dar es Salaam. The purpose of this conference is to lay the foundation for regional cooperation in promoting the African Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization framework (F-SAMA). He emphasized the importance of increasing investment in environmentally friendly agricultural machinery that adapts to the impacts of climate change. He pointed out that such machinery should reduce the labor burden of farmers, improve production efficiency, reduce post harvest losses, and protect the environment by adopting technologies that can withstand climate related challenges such as drought and seasonal changes.
