The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) jointly announced significant reforms aimed at alleviating congestion at Mombasa Port and expediting cargo clearance. In a statement issued that day, KRA Director Humphrey Wattanga stated that these measures mark Kenya's strategic shift toward a more predictable, efficient, and digitalized port ecosystem. He said, "Mombasa Port is not only a vital national asset but also a key regional gateway. Our goal is to eliminate bottlenecks, reduce cargo dwell time, and establish a predictable and efficient clearance system." To further accelerate clearance, KRA announced plans to expand the pre-arrival processing framework, prioritizing bulk cargo and low-risk goods among others.
