For decades, the abundant oil resources hidden underground in the Albert Rift Valley in western Uganda have been dormant deep in the geological layers, only at the theoretical level. Now, this long-standing vision is about to become a reality. Uganda and Tanzania are planning to export the first batch of crude oil through the highly anticipated East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) this year, which will propel the East African region towards a historic new era of energy development. The $5 billion, 1443 kilometer oil pipeline project has completed nearly 80% of its construction progress and entered its final sprint stage. Construction activities along the border between the two countries are also reaching a peak. once officially put into operation, the East African crude oil pipeline will transport waxy crude oil produced in the Albert Rift Valley in western Uganda to Tanga Port on the Indian Ocean coast of Tanzania, marking Uganda's successful accession to the ranks of African oil exporting countries. The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) is designed to operate at a temperature of approximately 50 degrees Celsius and will become the world's longest heated crude oil pipeline upon completion. This design aims to ensure that Uganda's heavy crude oil remains in a liquid state during transportation. Under full load operating conditions, the pipeline is expected to transport up to 230000 barrels of crude oil per day.
