The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has mandated that importers and customs brokers bringing used car parts, bicycles, mobile machinery, and trailers from Japan must inspect these items before shipment to enhance safety, protect consumer rights, ensure compliance, and avoid delays or penalties at ports. According to a statement issued over the weekend by Gladness Kasika, TBS Public Relations and Marketing Manager, in Dar es Salaam, inspections must be conducted in accordance with the Pre-shipment Verification of Conformity (PVoC) process. She noted that this regulation aims to improve the quality and safety control of products entering the country while facilitating smooth and efficient customs clearance at entry points. Ms. Kasika further stated that consequently, all importers of the aforementioned products from Japan must contact authorized agents for inspection and obtain a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) or Certificate of Registration (CoR) before shipping goods to Tanzania.
