Minister of Agriculture Adisu Arega stated that the Ministry of Agriculture is actively promoting agricultural mechanization and urban agriculture to safeguard the country's food sovereignty. Speaking at a forum organized for senior regional and federal government officials and professionals, the minister emphasized the critical role of agricultural mechanization and urban agriculture in ensuring food sovereignty and optimizing the nutrition food system. Therefore, he added, it is essential to strengthen agricultural transformation and raise farmers' awareness. According to the minister, mechanizing the agricultural sector requires urgent and effective interventions. To this end, the government has implemented various incentive policies, including tax exemptions for importing machinery such as tractors and combine harvesters, to ensure long-term benefits. The minister noted that in addition to providing machinery for the agricultural sector, capacity building, equipment maintenance, and promoting domestic machine assembly must also be enhanced. Regarding urban agriculture, Adisu pointed out that this area will significantly improve food nutrition, create employment opportunities, and increase the country's total food production.
