According to Star on December 16th, President William Ruto stated that the cement industry is at the core of his government's economic freedom agenda. He pointed out that almost every aspect of national development relies on a reliable, competitive, and sustainable cement value chain. The President made the above speech while witnessing the signing ceremony of the contract for the new clinker production line of Banbury Cement Company located in Matuga, Kwale County, Nairobi. The project will be jointly constructed by China National Building Materials International Engineering Group Co., Ltd., a leading enterprise in the global cement engineering and construction field, and China National Materials International Engineering Co., Ltd. Ruto stated that the cement industry supports a key sector of the economy, pointing out that roads, power plants, dams, irrigation channels, and factories are highly dependent on cement. He stated that investment in clinker production is the foundation of Kenya's broader transformation agenda. He pointed out that the signing of the contract marks the beginning of strategic industrial investment in Kenya's cement industry, which remains a key pillar of economic growth and infrastructure construction. Ruto stated that this industry supports significant investments in housing, transportation, energy, and industrialization.
