Tanga Port has reached another important milestone in its rapid rise as a competitive gateway in the Indian Ocean, welcoming the first batch of asphalt cargo from Iran. The arrival of this batch of goods highlights the increasing attractiveness of the port to international shippers, and also indicates the increasing frequency of maritime trade between Iran and Tanzania. Just a few weeks ago, an Iranian cargo ship arrived at Tanga Port, and port officials stated that this was the beginning of a "new chapter" in Iran's direct maritime relations with northern Tanzania. The new batch of asphalt that has arrived this time will be transported to Malawi, further consolidating this emerging connection. According to the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), the operational efficiency of Tanga Port has significantly improved, with the average time to handle a ship reduced from seven days to only three days. The significant improvement in this performance not only enhances the capacity and reputation of the port, but also enhances its competitiveness, attracting new market customers including Iran. Mr. Peter Milanzi, the acting manager of Tanga Port, stated that the reforms initiated under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan have transformed Tanga Port into one of the most reliable ports in the region.
