According to the Rwanda Mining, Oil and Gas Authority (RMB), Rwanda is expected to occupy an important position in the glass manufacturing value chain, mainly due to the country's widely distributed reserves of approximately 73 million tons of silica rich sand. Research has shown that these sand mines are mainly concentrated in areas such as Kirehe, Masangano, Nyamashikai, Kalongi, Rutsiro, Rubabu, Nyabihu, and Muhanga, providing a stable supply of raw materials for large-scale glass production in the next 700 years. A comprehensive feasibility study focuses on the potential of the Kirambo, Massangano, and Kireche regions, evaluating the availability, quality, and accessibility of raw materials required for glass manufacturing. The study paid special attention to quartz sand as a key raw material for the production of industrial glass. The survey results show that all target areas contain a large amount of high-quality quartz sand suitable for producing flat glass and container glass. To verify the quality of the mineral deposit, researchers collected representative samples from one of the regions and sent them to the Murya Glass Factory in Indonesia for analysis. As one of the well-known glass manufacturers in the region, the analysis results of this factory will provide important references for the development of the glass manufacturing industry in Rwanda.
