This week, Kenya's parliament became a global focal point as President William Ruto delivered his State of the Nation Address, outlining the country's political and economic development direction for the coming years. In a one-hour speech, the national leader proposed a comprehensive set of sectoral reforms and presented a roadmap for national transformation, aiming to turn Kenya into a developed economy comparable to the Asian Tigers (Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia). The president revealed that achieving this ambitious goal would require at least 5 trillion Kenyan shillings in long-term investment. Ruto described the plan as a strategic "roadmap" designed to lead Kenya into a new stage of development, emphasizing that prioritized reform measures would propel the country toward becoming a developed nation. His speech covered a wide range of topics, including economic stability, national security, education reform, universal healthcare promotion, infrastructure development, housing plans, digital transformation, and food security. The president also specifically thanked the parliament, highly praising the lawmakers' active engagement with the national agenda. He stated that the significant progress made since 2022 was achieved through close collaboration among government departments and highlighted the crucial role lawmakers played in advancing reform initiatives.
