According to a report by *Daily News* on October 22, the Tanzanian government is nearing completion of the installation of agricultural processing and value-added machinery, including a small sugar mill in Busiga District, Muyu Region. The mill is expected to commence operations in March 2026. This statement was made by Gerald Mvele, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, following a visit to the machinery manufacturing workshop of the Tanzania Engineering and Manufacturing Development Organization (TEMDO), which designed and built the facility. He noted that the initiative aims to boost production and increase income for smallholder farmers. The visit sought to explore how the Ministry of Agriculture could collaborate with TEMDO to empower women and youth under the "Building a Better Tomorrow" initiative. Additionally, he highlighted that the ministry and its agencies will continue working with TEMDO to utilize various value-added machines, including small sugar mills with a daily production capacity of up to 20 tons, aligning with the government's goals of increasing employment and income through agriculture.
