According to a report by *Star* on October 19, the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has implemented significant waivers on port storage fees for long-stalled containers ahead of the peak import season. Over 50 vessels are expected to dock within the next 14 days. The Port of Mombasa management proposed an 80% exemption on cumulative storage fees as one strategy to alleviate port congestion. In a notice to clients, KPA clarified the waiver terms for domestic and transit cargo, effective until November 6. Any cargo not cleared within the exemption period will be transferred to the Naivasha Inland Container Depot (ICD). The Kenya Ports Authority stated that this waiver applies to long-stalled containers at the Port of Mombasa that have been held for over 21 days since the notice date. Affected cargo owners must submit exemption applications to qualify for the reduction. However, alongside this amnesty, KPA warned that all long-stalled transit containers not cleared within the notice period will be transferred to the Naivasha Inland Container Depot.
