The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will implement revised rates at Mombasa Port and Lamu Port from today. Previously, a court case against the authority's new charges had been withdrawn, and the Container Freight Station Association had also expressed its agreement. According to a reminder notice issued by the Kenya Ports Authority to its customers, the rates in the 2025 tariff manual will officially take effect from December 22, in accordance with the provisions of Act No. 391 of 1978. The KPA issued the controversial 2025 Tariff Manual in August, aiming to replace the rate system implemented since 2012, and planned to implement it starting from September 15 this year. However, the manual was opposed by the Container Freight Station Association, which filed a lawsuit in court to challenge the rate changes. A few weeks ago, the two parties reached an out-of-court settlement, and the Container Freight Station Association subsequently withdrew the relevant lawsuit.
